Instructions to Authors

General Instructions to Authors

The journal will represent the results of professional work, teaching and scientific research, which, by using creativity and abstract thinking, culminate in a continuous flow of experiential learning about spatial values and the related processes. Different types of manuscripts will be published, i.e. peer-reviewed scientific papers, presentations of research and professional projects, presentations of workshops, scientific and professional meetings, field visits and scientific conferences, book reviews and similar.

Content-wise, the manuscripts will cover different social and technical sciences and fields, showcasing the creativity gained through spatial research during workshops, competitions, professional and scientific projects and other activities related to spatial studies and the study of built form.

In the journal, different types of submissions will be published:

Original scientific and profesional articles: Manuscript registration form 1 manuscript instructions 2 and template 3
Presentations of research and professional projects: Manuscript registration form 1 common instructions 4 and template 5
Presentations of workshops: Manuscript registration form 1 common instructions 4 and template 6
Presentations of scientific and profesional meetings: Manuscript registration form 1 common instructions 4 and template 7
Presentations of conferences and other current events: Manuscript registration form 1 common instructions 4 and template 8

Review procedure and language editing

All submitted manuscripts will be subject to peer review; the review procedure is, as a rule, anonymous. Reviewers are appointed by the Editorship of the journal. During the review procedure and preparation for printing, confidentiality of the manuscript contents is assured, except when the reviewer agrees to discuss the contents of comments and revisions with the author. Only articles with positive reviews shall be published. Reviewed articles will be returned to the authors for revision (if necessary). It is a condition for publication that the revisions are made.

The review procedure shall be applied to submissions in both Slovenian and English, based on theoretical and practical experience from the areas of architecture, civil engineering, urban design, spatial planning, landscape architecture, sociology and from other areas of social and technical sciences relevant to these subject matters. In the selection of the manuscripts for publications, the editors shall place emphasis on originality and currency related to the trends in the scientific community. Theoretically and methodologically, the journal is pluralistic, with special emphasis on the consolidation of Slovenian terminology in the fields related to spatial studies and the study of built form. The journal shall consider only original, not yet published scientific articles and articles not yet submitted for publication to any other scientific journal or monograph.

The Slovenian authors are encouraged to publish their manuscripts in English, too. Irrespective of the language of the manuscript (i.e. Slovenian or English), the authors themselves are responsible for translation and language editing of the manuscripts. During the submission or prior to the publication at the latest, the authors shall submit a statement that the manuscript was edited (proofread by qualified translator). Non-Slovenian authors should consult the Editorship regarding the translation (of the Abstract) from English into Slovenian.

If the language of the submission is poor, the Editor can return the manuscript to the author who must arrange that the text is professionally edited.

The author receives a test printout of the article; only printer's errors or any errors relating to the meaning may be corrected. If the proofs are not returned by the date requested or at the latest within three days, it shall be considered that the article needs no corrections and shall be published as such.

The submitted material is not returned to the authors.

Typology of documents/works in COBISS

Authors may propose the type of their manuscript by considering the Typology of documents/works for bibliography management in COBISS (http://cobiss.izum.si/ bibliographies of researchers – introductory comments); however, the Editorship reserves the right to classify the manuscripts based on reviews.

Typology of documents/works for bibliography management in COBISS:
1.01 Original Scientific Article (max. 5000 words or 35.000 characters)
An original scientific article is only the first-time publication of original research results in a way that allows the research to be repeated, and the findings checked. As a rule, it follows the IMRAD (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion) scheme for experimental research, or it is organised in a descriptive way for descriptive scientific areas. The article must be published in a scientific journal with a peer-review system of accepting articles and must be peer-reviewed. The peer-review system must be evident from the instructions for authors.

1.02 Review Article (max. 5000 words or 35.000 characters)
A review article is an overview of the latest works in a specific subject area, the works of an individual researcher or a group of researchers with the purpose of summarising, analysing, evaluating or synthesising the information that has already been published. A review article brings new syntheses, which also include the results of the author's own research. The review article must be published in a scientific journal with a peer-review system of accepting articles and must be peer-reviewed. The peer-review system must be evident from the instructions for authors.

1.03 Short Scientific Article (at least 1500 words or 8.000 characters)
A short scientific article is an original scientific article, in which some of the elements of the IMRAD scheme may be omitted. It briefly summarises the findings of a completed original research work or a research work in progress. Also included in this category are mini reviews and preliminary publications, if they have the characteristics of a short scientific article.

1.04 Professional Article
A professional article is the presentation of what is already known, with the emphasis on the applicability of original research results and the dissemination of knowledge, while the complexity of the text is adapted to the needs of the users and readers of the professional or scientific journal, in which the said article is published.

1.19 Review
A contribution in a scientific or professional publication, in which the author evaluates or proves the correctness/incorrectness of a scientific or professional work, criterion, opinion or finding and/or disputes/supports/assesses the findings, works or opinions of other authors. The display of an expert opinion, a critique of a scientific, professional or artistic work, particularly in terms of its quality.
